Party perfect

I bought a small book last year called Party Perfect Bites (by Milli Taylor). I just love a canapé! I’ve been trying different recipes from it over the past year and last night tried this one on the gals from my book group.

Before this we’d had little guacamole with crab croustades, which had a fair amount of red chillies (too much chilli!) so the watermelon was perfect to follow! You make a well in the watermelon and add feta, but the well I made was so tiny it was hard to taste the cheese. We decided afterwards that a stronger blue cheese might be better. Then there’s a basil leaf with a drop of balsamic reduction. Et voilà!

Our book this month was A House for Mr Biswas by V S Naipaul. I really liked it and thought it was very funny, even though the story is somewhat grim; all the others hated it! Philistines.
