Causeway
This flimsy membrane,
despite its gaudy colors,
is soon put aside;
umbrellas can hold back rain,
but not the retreating tide.
Yesterday the weather report I heard on the radio called for "a slushy mess all day." No beating around the bush there. Fortunately it was really just rain, and more off and on rather than all day. I got out for a bit and went down by the causeway without getting too soaked.
Despite being convinced we'll have more snow before this is all over, I have to admit signs of spring keep rolling in. The robins in the yard are yanking up worms left and right. There is a distinct blush of red along the tree line across the field. And sure enough, right after my comment from yesterday, a fox sparrow appeared under the feeder.
