Bank Holiday Brighton

If I could have dreamed up a good day, it wouldn't have been a lot better than the one we've just had.
We met emilythepemily and photojenic at Charleston House (you know, the place where the Bloomsbury group were - Virginia Woolfe and Duncan Bell etc.). It was, as always, full of shabby chic - something I have got to like over the ten years or so since I last went. Everything is artistically placed - even the greenhouse is positioned so that composition is not a problem.

We had to go to Brighton afterwards for fish and chips on the beach - except that it turned out to be too sodding cold and windy for sitting out on the beach. Still, we were treated to a front row seat at a demo, though.
Apparently they were objecting to a local munitions factory, although that was not very clear, somewhat defeating the object of a demonstration, I thought.
The whole affair was quite good-natured with a couple of hundred protesters getting nicely pissed and listening to music while a dozen or so hardcore scrappers went to goad the constabulary. The scene was really strange with 12 protesters facing up to 50 policemen with 150 photographers trying to get a picture of some uncalled-for violence, while the rest of the crowd got merry..
The demo seemed to end at about 6:00 on the dot as that was the time all the coaches had to leave.

We had fish and chips in a restaurant, and wended our merry way home.
