Friday night on the town
Off to Dumfries to meet up with Angus and get the final bits and pieces cleared out of Castle Douglas. We pile some clothes out of the dryer and into the car, manhandle the bed base into the lean-to, and take a wander down the high street.
On the way back up the high street, I spot the Sulrath Brewery bar. They’ve got an interesting range of beers and a friendly clientele. We take a seat outside and learn about car thefts, recent accidents, drunken property purchases, and strange bars in Ayrshire.
Then to Carlos for a great Italian supper. No space for pudding, no sign of Derrick, so we head back to Dumfries. Where we stop into the Riverside Tap, a comfortable beer house with sofas occupied by a mix of students and older folk. Another good choice of beers, so we try two.
Derrick and his entourage arrive much later. They shifted a boat before picking up the bed in Castle Douglas. We carry it into Angus’ flat, but they’re impatient to get to Polnackie, so it’s a thanks-and-goodbye affair.
We doze off watching The Hunt For Red October.
