Pier Peering And The Lorax
I'm a bit behind posting my blips as me and my brother decided to have a short break in Brighton for a couple of days - our first holiday of any kind for nearly two years.
An early morning run and then we set off of Brighton at midday. We had an enjoyably straightforward and traffic free journey down there, until we were almost at the seafront, when we encountered some roadworks but once these had been negotiated we were able to park the car and get our first blast of sea air on our way to one of our favourite pubs in Brighton, The Robin Hood, for pizza and a couple of pints. Relaxation immediately set in! :-)
The extras are a figure of The Lorax, the Dr. Seuss childrens' character, with its accompanying signs, which we came across in the garden of a little square on the way to the pub which caught my attention. I wholeheartedly agree with the environmental message too.
Once suitably refreshed we walked back along the beach to get some images. It was overcast with a slightly strange hue to the sky (which you can see in my main image peering across to the Palace pier) which was a result of the recent Saharan dust cloud hovering over Europe.
Once we had completed our stroll we headed back to the car, collected our bags just as the rain began to fall and endured a bit of wet trudge to our hotel, The Charm, in Kemptown.
After settling ourselves in we ventured back out for a drink at a nearby bar called Saint James. We were expecting it to be quiet as it was a Wednesday night but it was bustling and we had to perch rather precariously on two stools, which was the only seating left, by the window to imbibe our pints.
By this time we were starving and in a spirit of adventure we decided to try somewhere new for our evening meal. Not far from the bar we found a Thai/Indonesain restaurant called Longrain. The staff were so welcoming and the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Washed down with a large glass of wine, this was a great end to the first day of our holiday.
