Home Of Rugby
A great way to start the day is an ‘all you can eat’ breakfast which we took full advantage of. Leisurely breakfasts are also get you off to a good start and today was no different, extra coffee and catching up with each other before a stroll to the station and on to Twickenham.
An unhurried amble along Church Street, Joshua and Tiana stopped to play street chess, I watched for a while and then walked down to the river.
Always fascinated by Eel Pie Island I sat and watched as the rowing club prepared their ‘eights’ for launching, last time we were on the island and in the rowing club was for my eldest son Barry’s 40th. It’s a much quieter place now than in its hey days of the ‘60’s.
The William Webb Ellis pub for a couple of “swift halves” where we enjoyed a boisterous and noisy crowd cheering on Italy, cue pandemonium at the final whistle.
On to the stadium, Josh had booked tickets for the hospitality screening in ‘The Chop House’, really good venue. We had a meal, fish & chips for me, complimentary beer and a multitude of screens of different sizes to take our pick from.
First up Ireland v Scotland, a match most people seemed to only have a passing interest in, followed by France v England. Most people I spoke to seemed to have accepted that France would win comfortably and that proved to be the case.
A walk back to Twickenham station and an uneventful train journey got us back to Woking just before midnight.
Coffee and bed with the sound of fireworks going off outside the hotel somewhere helping me drift off to sleep.
A long day but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
