What kind of bird is this??

We were hearing scratching and gnawing sounds in the kitchen this afternoon. I was afraid something was in our wall. Dan went outside to listen and he motioned to me. It's not in the wall he said.
At one point Dan made this little bird house with my Wyoming license plate as a sloping roof. No bird has ever used it.. it's just too close to us and of course our cat, Hilda. But clearly this little guy thought it was great to check out. I kept tapping on it and waiting for him to peek out. The extra is when he, or her, was just giving me an eyeball. Who knows what it was doing in there. Maybe just finding something to chew or setting up shop? Who knows...
