Simplicity

Been pickling my head on the internet reading about big rings and small rings and which you should use so decided to clear my mind of all things derailleur related and head back to basics and have a wee ride on Miranda who thankully has no rings. She runs on an 8 speed internal Shimano nexus hub gear so when it gets hard you twist the shifter forward and when it gets easy you twist the shifter back. My hybrid bike also runs a hub gear but due its disc brakes is the Shimano Alfine and instead of twist shift it has alfine rapid fire

What a smashing mix the stupendous one made for RPM this morning. Was pretty hard going and I don't think that I have made such a big puddle underneath my bike for a long time. It was my first RPM since last Sunday and was so pleased to be back riding with the usual Sunday suspects. Had a revelation this morning which never really occurred to me before, the BPM of the song is = to the RPM cadence measurement that a cyclist would use as a means of measuring their pace on a long ride (which annoyingly also relates back to the big ring/small ring choice) So really to optimise the workout you do need to hit every beat spot on with the correct resistance. Seems that RPM is becoming much more than just sitting on a bike and pedaling like a maddy as now I am thinking about feet position, cadence, climbing position, resistence...........it's only taken me 1 1/2 years but I do actually think that I am starting to get this indoor cycling malarky
