Bird of Paradise

This streletzia grows right by our front door and these birds always make me smile...partly because they bloom so profusely and partly because they bloom almost year round. At their peak they really strut their stuff, but as they age they begin to look a bit frazzled. Sort of like me.....Each year they grow taller, and they are beginning to peer into the high bathroom window. They also remind me of the silly wild turkeys that are starting to appear everywhere* I think they have real personalities....the flowers, the turkeys not so much.

We're reasonably sure that there will be no more rain until fall. This is not good news for the climate or the risk of fires, but it is good news for pleasant weather and sitting outside. We took all the covers off the furniture on the porch, brought the bistro chairs out of the pump house and put up all the umbrellas. We now have the luxury of choosing from four outdoor spots to enjoy our evening glass of wine.

Tonight I think we'll sit at the bistro table outside our bedroom and decide if we like the view across the fields as much as we did when the old fence burned down. At the time, despite the utter devastation, we liked the openness of the view and decided to replace the solid fence with a hog wire one. The bunker house wasn't there when we decided that but is now finished and has a 'for sale' outside it, and the rebuild next to our driveway is taking shape. We can always plant a vine on the fence, but for now I think we'll leave it open. We quite enjoy watching he framing crew at work. They are a cheerful bunch of guys and seem to enjoy their work....

I hope everyone finds something to smile about over the weekend....
