Edinburgh and the Forth

Another beautiful day in Edinburgh - we set off eastwards to pay a visit to the Newhailes Estate, now owned by the National Trust for Scotland and situated on the edge of the small town of Musselburgh, which is itself on the eastern edge of Edinburgh. The house isn't open at the moment, but we enjoyed a walk around the woods and a snack in the café. 

After a picnic lunch we drove on north-eastwards along the Forth, passing through the lovely small towns of Prestonpans, Port Seton and Longniddry and parked beside the timber bridge which takes you across to the Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve - this is my extra today.  We enjoyed a walk there under the wide-open East Lothian skies before returning to Auld Reekie, as Edinburgh was once called in its smokier days!
