La Ruca café

Is one of the oldest cafés in Bristol. It was set up by refugees from Chile who fled the dictator Pinochet in the mid 70s. They sell delicious empanadas, tortillas and so on. Before covid I used to go there once a month to an Amnesty International letter- writing session. I took my nephew, who is very interested in cooking, for an explore along Gloucester Road, a long shopping street with almost entirely independent shops and cafes - we looked at shops that just sell bread, or pasta, or cheese, or sweets. Also a Romanian shop, a Spanish deli, and shop that sold ingredients like miso, and kimchi. Loads of charity shops too. It’s really unusual and enjoyable to visit. We very much enjoyed our lunch at La Ruca.  The extra is of a colourful greengrocer.
