laundry
A busy day at the cafe today - school holidays have started so lots of families came in, and maybe the rain helped to increase our customer numbers as well..who knows how these things work?
I was a "floater" for the first few hours of the day, and one of the floater's tasks is to do the laundry. This means taking all the aprons out of the tumble dryer, untangling their straps, then ironing and folding them, then transferring all the tea towels, cloths and purple (kitchen) aprons into the tumble dryer to sort and fold later on.
I quite enjoy ironing the aprons. This may be because I never iron anything at home. All our clothes are of the non-creasing variety nowadays :-) I thought it was quite funny when we went to the wedding last week and Sarah's dress was going to need ironing when she unpacked it - I asked my sister and my Mum if they could bring an iron with them to use at the hotel and found out that the only one they had between them was a tiny travel iron which used to be mine 40 years ago! So glad that the women in my family have been liberated from a chore which should surely be redundant in the 21st century..
While I was ironing, one of the kitchen trainees was very excited when he noticed that a robin was building a nest outside the window. We have our own wee bird hide!
I did the weekly shop after work and then came home. It's raining for the first time in ages so I haven't been for a proper walk. Sarah phoned to say she was coming home tonight and then that the windscreen wipers had suddenly failed on her car, so as I write she is waiting for the RAC to come out and see what they can do...
