Farewell
Our last day. We packed pretty quickly then made a huge breakfast of leftover sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, haggis and potatoes which we just managed to eat then clear up to vacate the cottage on time. We decided to go to a beach for the last time and tried out Wells, with its long line of beach huts snuggled up by the sand dunes at the edge of another huge sandy stretch. It was cloudy and windy but warm….almost too warm for coats.
We did our now usual big loop, with Heston dashing around, T making forays across stretches of water towards sand bars (and getting water in his wellies!), and K combing the sand for pretty shells.
We had a coffee In the little cafe before parting, with T&Kt driving straight home and us stopping in both Ely and Cambridge for a little pootle around. Ely was somewhat disappointing other than the cathedral, but we enjoyed going to all the usual bits around Cambridge and once again the sun came out and it was warm, so we had some delicious ice cream sitting on King’s parade and soaking up the sights. Think we saw T’s ex-husband B so spied on him a bit like private detectives!
Easy drive home and just time for a chat to O (with big news of a baby!) before off to book group. Lovely to see people again and we chatted pretty non stop about holidays, family, houses, bucket lists and even some books.
Home late…whacked out!
