Whilst in Devon..

By TonyL

This is the cottage we were...

... supposed to be moving into today. However we've just witnessed the effects of a mini hurricane/tornado which raced up from the bottom of the hill with torrential rain and causing mayhem. Many trees uprooted, including half a dozen blocking the drive to the farm, anything loose swept up in the air, including a large metal garden table. As it swept up past the farmhouse opposite it blew tiles off the roof like sheets of paper, and all the newly installed metal guttering crashed to the ground. It reminded me of videos of hurricanes in America...
Anyway there are holes in the roof and as soon as they can get it covered over we can move across. And now 4 hrs later there are 3 scaffolding lorries and loads of men rapidly erecting scaffolding all round so they can secure tarpaulins to make the building as watertight as possible.
We hope to be moving to our new house down south by the end of next month and until then as we are on very reduced rental rates we are swopping cottages to make way for visitors paying full rates.
We weren't affected at all in our cottage.. It seems a very isolated weather effect.
