Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2022 Thursday -- Field Trip

We left the house slightly before 2:00 p.m.to go on a road trip. Mostly we just wanted to get out of our very warm house before the sun was blasting full force onto the front windows.

North on Hwy #1 toward Cambria and San Simeon was our route. We saw deer at the Ace Hardware and Lumber Co in Cambria. The squirrels were spotted in Leffingwell Park right next to the ocean in Cambria. We walked the pups on the lawn just above the beach at San Simeon State Beach where we could see Hearst Castle in full view, but the Castle is still closed and hasn't reopened since the Covid pandemic. Everything else has opened so we're not sure what's keeping the castle closed.

Later I captured scenes from the road as we were driving south toward Cayucos and we could see across Estero Bay to Morro Rock. We drove right past Cayucos to the community of Morro Bay to have an early dinner.

We talked about going to LoLo's, a Mexican restaurant that is a favorite of ours, and decided to go fill our gas tank and then choose where to eat.

I suggested Mi CASA Mexican Restaurant because they have a nice patio for dining, but all their shady parking spots were taken. We drove further down the street and found shade at DiStasios Italian Restaurant and felt comfortable leaving the pups parked in the car. So that's where we enjoyed a delicious pasta and garlic bread meal.

We talked with our waitress about the unseasonable hot weather; she mentioned that it was cooler in San Simeon where she has another job at Hearst Castle. We told her we had just come from that area and asked when the castle would be opening again for tours. "May 11th," she told us "the entire place opens to the public." So now we know.

I like to visit the castle gift shop and lobby. I'm sure the business owners of the motels and restaurants in the tiny community of San Simeon are delighted that Hearst Castle will be resuming business with the public. We've been there when the crowds are overwhelming.

Then home to feed the pups and open all the windows.

This has been a good Thursday!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
