Old Brown Shoe

At the fascinating 21 Gallery near Park Kulturi, the very beautiful Ksenia Podoynitsyna keeps up a string of avant garde shows, most of which are too clever for my simple tastes. I go because I like the company and the sense of playfulness which is rarely far beneath the surface.

This photograph was exhibited in a show called Sense of Water, by Natalia Zintsova. Styrofoam fragments looking like amber were shown alongside a desk with a drawer full of sand and a video of a woman doing complicated exercises on a rope in an art studio. I think that might have been Mlle. Zintsova, though she looked rather different on the opening night with a bunch of orchids in her hand.

I said the photograph above reminded me of a song. When asked which, and I said Old Brown Shoe, I was met with blank expressions. That possibly explains why such exhibitions are a mystery to me.
