Wind in the Olive Trees
Today was definitely another day. Since the seed of Covid was planted in my mind yesterday...it isn't very rampant around here yet, so it wasn't the foremost thought in my mind ...I decided I'd better confirm it or put it to rest. Besides, I've gotten this far without ever testing myself. I might as well find out what it's like. What the rapid test confirmed is a strong strain of hypochondria. As soon as I tested negative, I began to feel better.
We had a bit of rain during the night, the temperature dropped 20 degrees and it's been blowing a gale all day. I threw Spike's kong for him but a strong gust of wind came up and he stood there looking at me, clearly torn...wanting to retrieve the kong but obviously scared by the wind. I brought him back inside, leaving the kong where it had landed. He waited until the wind quieted down, went through his dog door, retrieved his kong and brought it back inside.
Things have been blowing through the air all day so it seems safer inside anyway. I'm not too worried about fire danger because the humidity is pretty high, but I do worry a little about the number of burned trees launching missiles of dead branches. Brings to mind Will. When he was a little kid he was really scared of the wind and wouldn't go to school. We all kind of rolled our eyes, but I'm beginning to think he might have had a point.
I was trying to capture a little bit of the feeling of the wind and when I went up to our little olive grove I was almost blown back down the stairs by a strong gust. I don't know if I succeeded, but I did like the effect of the sun on the leaves. In low key they look like shooting stars.
Quote of the day:
When people lack the courage to admit their mistakes, apologize, adapt to reality and learn, they turn into monsters. And when the world ignores it, the monsters decide that it is the world that has to adapt to them.
_Volodymyr Zelensky
Who would have dreamed that a comedian turned leader, could be so wise? He has given his people the courage to fight on because they believe in what they are fighting for. The Russians don't really know what they are fighting for. It does seem like the world is poised, waiting to see what Russia will do next.
