Rattlesnake Grass

Around here it is almost easier to tell the season by the grass. We seem to be about six weeks to two months ahead of the season this year as evidenced by the almost overnight appearance of the rattlesnake grass, so named because of the resemblance of the grass heads to a rattlers' rattle. I've always liked grasses in general and this one in particular. I loved the light behind this one showing such great detail.

The wind, though chilly and strong at times was enough to blow away/sink the water plants and algae that has turned the lake brown  and uninviting for months. We hardly ever go there since our Spike Walk suits him so well, but we have several nice views of the lake and the dam from above. Technically, Spike is supposed to be on a lead, but nobody seems to mind. I asked a man leaning on a rock in the sun next to his bike if he did and he said no, he was just enjoying himself. I said that was exactly why we came here with our dog because he enjoyed himself so much and we liked it too. He smiled and thanked me for asking. So nice to have a simple, civilized conversation in a beautiful place.

I should be cleaning the grout on the bathroom floor with a toothbrush, but I worked on Ruta's quilt instead. I'm in the process of sewing the whole thing together, but still tweaking it along the way. I admit I am taking my time because I'm not in a hurry to finish it and don't really have another project on the horizon.

It's been sunny but quite cold today as the cold wind came back in the afternoon and the clouds appear to be building. I hope they produce a little more rain than the last lot did on Sunday night but we'll take any amount....

Thanks to Sheol for hosting Tiny Tuesday.
