Gardening Wednesday (13th April 2022)
Ferns like shade, but the conditions provided for my young fernery in the space between the car port and my neighbours' garage proved to be in excess of the shade required, and the ferns have been struggling. At her last visit Refna suggested replanting them in a lighter rockery area below the laurel, much closer to the house, where they can be seen from the porch window. All seven were successfully transplanted by her today to the new fernery, during the morning.
This was taken outdoors from the rockery area being modified. There was a lot of bird activity at the adjacent feeders that I had just topped up, including three robins, great tits, pigeons and Mr and Mrs McCartney. Mrs had just flown over to the water stand by the arch.
Mrs T (a neighbouring cat) put in an appearance as well, but out of photographic reach. She ignored all Refna's entreaties to approach.

Everly Brothers - Love is Strange (recorded live, Royal Albert Hall, London, 23 September 1983)
Don and Phil Everly had not shared a stage in ten years due to relationship problems when they staged this reunion in London, with a band led and directed by Albert Lee, an English musician who after being in a number of English bands including Chris Farlowe's Thunderbirds and Head, Hands and Feet moved to Los Angeles in 1974 and soon became involved with the current incarnation of the Crickets and then Emmylou Harris's Hot Band and Eric Clapton.
One of the stand out moments of the film of the event, Reunion, which I was watching on this night, was Love Is Strange, with its call-and-response section. First recorded by the Everlies for their Beat & Soul album in 1965, the song dates back to 1956 when it was written by Bo Diddley (using his wife's name Ethel Smith). His version was not released at the time but the song first appeared in a version by Mickey and Sylvia (Mickey Baker and Sylvia Vanterpool, later Sylvia Robinson). I think I first knew it by the Everlies and by Sonny and Cher (as Caesar and Cleo), but it has been recorded by everyone from Buddy Holly to Everything But The Girl.
