You can't please all the people all the time

We've always known that this house wouldn't appeal to everyone. It doesn't exactly disappear into the background. It doesn't exactly conform to the vernacular. It is more obvious sitting on its hillside than we had intended but, godammit, I for one think that this particular hillside looks kinda cool these days. Our immediate neighbours call the house Le Phare (The Lighthouse) and it has also been described as "the monstrosity on the hill."

Today one of La Caumette's most conservative inhabitants told L that we had built a beautiful house and that we had "appointed" it in good taste.

Isn't life strange? Isn't life grand?
