Pairing up

It's a vocal time of year. Gulls are raucous at any time, but now it's pandemonium. There are two key triggers.

First comes "get your beady eyes off my girl!" So the leftmost gull (boy) attacked and drove away the solo gull (boy) sitting on the dormer window. Who, we may be certain, was back within minutes. This went on all day. Lady gull (2nd from left) must be wearing a nice perfume, nice to a gull anyway.

Second is the mass attack from outside, when a flock comes down from the fields, to be met in shouty aerial combat, with ferocious wheeling, shouting and screaming. Puts me in mind of Russians attacking Ukraine, for some reason. The invasion, sorry, special operation, is beaten off, but it happens several times a day.

It's all about sex, food and nesting sites, which demonstrates Maslow's heirarchy of needs in action.
