Easter Monday Walk

For both P and I, the project “let’s catch up on sleep during the long Easter weekend” was a complete failure. We’re now both severely sleep-deprived and consequently short-tempered.

But we managed to go for a walk to Frauenstein today, a village proud of its vineyards, cherry trees, and the fact that it was visited by Goethe in 1815.

Goethe had a long life and there’s hardly a village in our area that he didn’t visit at some point, but still - it’s something to be proud of, so the citizens of Frauenstein erected a monument called “Goethestein” in 1932 (a century after Goethe’s death) on a hill overlooking the village.
I liked how it gets framed by ornamental cherry blossom, when you walk along the main street.

In the extra, I have added a few impressions from our walk. If you look closely at the perched kestrel (which sadly was quite far away and looked in the other direction, or I would have made it my main blip), you can see a small, naked spot on its belly. This is called a brood patch and helps to keep eggs warm - so there’s a nest with kestrel eggs somewhere close.
