A fascinating and at times sobering day at the National Museum of the American Indian.

Some amazing displays showing the breadth and variety of the native Americans from north to south and east to west and their role in the development of the nation of the USA.  

Years ago they were not treated well by the British or the nascent American state. William Penn had a value based approach but the generations that followed sought to exploit those whose lands they occupied.

There was a superb modern exhibition on the "Raven who stole the Sun" with some astonishing and beautiful glasswork depicting the story of how the sprite Yeil (a raven who disguised himself to gain access to a box of treasurers contain (amongst other things) the sun and the moon).  An extra shows some of the exhibit.

There were also displays of the day of the dead (another extra that nearly made the blip).

But the blip itself is a view of the Capital Hill through a display outside the Smithsonian Art and Buildings Museum.

All of this followed by a night tour of the city on a lovely evening. Yet more iconic shots but I am using up too many of my extras!!
