Cock O' The North
Whitaker's Brewery, Halifax brewed good beer - I was weaned on it (along with Draught Bass). My preference was for their XXXX Bitter of which I drank a few pints in my early days. Sadly the brewery closed down in 1969 and production transferred to Bentley's Yorkshire Brewery in Leeds. The beer was never the same after the move :-(.
Whitaker's trademark was "Cock O' The North Beers' accompanied by this splendid rooster. Thankfully the name 'Cock O' The North' - and the rooster - lives on at the Halifax Steam Brewing Company, a well respected microbrewery located in Hipperholme, just outside Halifax.
