Walking Round the Ness- Stromness Day 9
I’m sitting at the bus stop in Kirkwall Travel centre waiting for transport back to Stromness having guided the daughter onto the correct road to the airport where she will ditch the hire car and fly back to Inverness. Sundays are not good for buses here and at 5pm the town is totally deserted save for the shuttle buses taking cruise passengers back to the ugly looking liner Magnifica. Yes, the liners are back in Kirkwall much to my disgust but to the delight of Orkney’s bread and butter cash flow.
We had a slow start today because we were late abed last night after a wonderful evening with the taxi driver and the current Mrs Creel who produced the most amazing feast for us. I can’t remember having had such an evening of bonhomie in ages.
It was quite a chilly day (8°)but we had a lovely walk round the Ness after getting our act together. No cheese scone this morning but coffee at home, watching the traffic on Hamnavoe.
We filled the car with petrol and took rubbish to the dump before stripping off and having a swim at the Ness slipway . It felt cold today especially out of the water but hot showers were taken and we had warmed up before we left for Sally to get to the airport.
I will miss the company of daughter#1- we had a wonderful five days together with never a dull moment.
