ANZAC Day

Today is ANZAC Day which originally commemorated members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli campaign, their first engagement in WW1. Now the day honours all Australians and New Zealanders who served in wars and peacekeeping operations since.

My main shows an ANZAC memorial in a local park. There are many ANZAC memorials throughout Australia including small towns.

My extras show participants in a two-up game, illegal on all days except ANZAC Day, where two or three original pennies are tossed in the air and punters can bet on how they come down. The first one shows the bringer-in of the bets, quite a character (there were some seriously big bets, especially the more alcohol that was consumed); the second the coins being tossed - look closely and you can see them in the air; and the third shows a punter, wearing her medals and holding some $20 notes aloft.

Thanks for hosting throughout April, Carolina.
