Another Languedoc year...

By SweetApricots

We've moved toooooo!

These are the larvae of Cetonia aurata (rose chafer). They used to live in the compost heap at our old house, but today they moved to join us here. They are responsible for turning all the fruit peelings and banana skins left over from the preparation of hundreds of B&B guests' breakfasts. Every single bit of vegetation went on the heap and these plump bugs left us with the rich loveliness you can see on the left. (Sorry about the crappy iPhone photo). That compost is now in our new raised beds and around 40 larvae are in the new compost heap. I hope they enjoy it. There are hundreds more to come, along with lots more compost, so they should be able to make a good start.

The scarab beetles they become are pretty damn gorgeous too.
