A jubilee tree
Following on from my blip yesterday this is one of the trees which have been planted in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. It was planted about a month ago, no label so I was unsure about the variety but it now has a few leaves and looks like a type of elm.
I pass it often when I take our dog for a walk. I have looked up where they are all planted and find that there is one in each council ward, 18 wards, and most seem to be planted on a recreation ground or park area. There are quite a variety of species that have been planted presumably to compliment other trees in the vicinity.
The one in the photo is Resista’ elm (Ulmus Vada ‘Wanoux). Although the jubilee label is prominent I noticed it was not fixed on very securely so I’m wondering if it will ‘disappear’ !
