THE PICTURE HOUSE

Now a Community Cinema, this building was erected in 1849 as a Mechanics Institute for Workers Education.
It was converted into 'The Picture House' in 1912 by Walter Power. Locally he was known as 'Powers' and he was a showman extraordinaire.

The Ritz has 194 seats and is twinned with The Mount Vic Flicks in Australia - cinema 'the way it used to be' with ushers, a piano player and door prizes ! Even better it is not far from my great friend Hobbs.
