"Illustrious" Irishman
Warm enough this morning to sit out in the 'yard for coffee with MrM, and very pleasant it was too.
He needed to go in to Alnwick early this afternoon, and I joined him for the ride. We also took the opportunity to do a quick supermarket shop for a few provisions for the coming weekend. On the way back we passed Chillingham Castle. This equestrian statue of Field-Marshal Hugh Viscount Gough stands in the grounds, and he's described as an "Illustrious Irishman". However, he was a controversial British military commander, and the statue was apparently beheaded by vandals in 1944, and blown up by the IRA in 1957!
Too nice to stay indoors when we got home, so I walked up to the Common in search of red squirrels. No luck today though!
Good to chat on the phone with Lucy earlier this evening. She's training for a half-marathon, and had just returned from a run.
