Saga
I didn't mention, yesterday - because it wasn't very interesting - that I had my car serviced. It transpired that there was a nail in one of the tyres, and they recommended that all four tyres be replaced (on the grounds that it's a four-wheel drive). This was a little galling as they are relatively new.
This replacing all four, and not just a pair, is new to me, though, so I checked with Steve - who, amongst other things, is an authority on cars - and he said just to change the damaged type and the other one opposite it, which is what I've done previously.
Anyway, the garage said (and Steve confirmed) that it was safe to drive the car, so I took it home and arranged for Kwikfit to come and change the tyres today. The appointment window was large - "between 08:30 and 20:30" - but that was fine; I was working from home all day.
In the end, the guy turned up at just after five o'clock. He unpacked his gear and I went to get him a drink, and then I said just to knock on the door if he needed anything. And he did, almost immediately.
"Have you got another locking wheel nut?" he asked.
Well, to cut a tedious story short, the garage had replaced all of the locking bolts in the wheels but not left me with a new locking wheel nut and, of course, went I went to call them, they were already closed for the day. Bugger.
(The one in the picture is the one I've had ever since I bought the car, which has a different shape in the middle from the new bolts.)
