Jo Ann, fiercely determined to keep fighting
Last night one of the right-wing truck convoys came through Portland on the way to Idaho. If you haven't seen them, it's a stream of trucks with big American flags flying, many with Trump flags. One of my friends was near the highway, shooting video of the convoy when people in the convoy began shooting (live bullets) at people on an overpass who were throwing eggs and paint balloons at them. My friend who was there said half the people on the overpass were houseless people who live in the neighborhood around the overpass. No one was hit by the bullets, but the police (who were present, harassing those throwing eggs) took no action. They did not follow the convoy. They did not attempt to find out where the shots came from. This morning Jo Ann issued this statement:
For the past 7 years, our progressive city has been a target for white supremacists who fantasize about reclaiming Portland as a white utopia.
The same people who attacked our nation’s Capitol on January 6th came to our city yesterday and in the name of reclaiming law and order, they blocked a highway, assaulted independent journalists, and shot at our community members.
We are still waiting for more information but I want to be clear and unambiguous that we stand with Portlanders. I will continue to fight for the soul of this city, progress will not be scaled back at the hands of a few bullies.
She is one brave woman.
