Cleethorpes and Gunby

Portobello is not the only beach with a wobbly groyne! This morning we walked on the beach, pier and Promenade at Cleethorpes. The central section of the beach here bans dogs from Good Friday to 30th September. The promenade was therefore full of dogs! There were two teams of donkeys on either side of Cleethorpes Pier giving rides to children. The six platformed railway station terminates on the promenade and explains how this seaside resort was manufactured by the railway. The line is still operating but the majority of visitors come by car. I have never seen so many fish and chip shops in such close proximity. We resisted the temptation to buy Cleethorpes Rock for the grandchildren!

By contrast, we spent the afternoon in the peace and tranquility of Gunby House, Estate and formal gardens. Such a horticultural treat was surprisingly quiet for a May Day holiday. We could have spent all day here. We noticed that they have self catering cottages too.

Our drive home skirting Lincoln, Leicester and Birmingham was very smooth. We encountered some light showers and hoped our garden had also received some much needed rain.
