heuchera flowers
I had three spearmint heucheras before the wabbit. The wabbit ate two but they were coming back - until they weren't. I think the soil right there is rough, I couldn't dig deeply enough for the first replacement. I'm putting the second replacement in a little pot. When the bleeding heart dies back I'll move the pot into the empty space and the heucheras and some maidenhair ferns will fill in the space.
I asked my neighbor when she is planting her lilac. Maybe this weekend. I sent her the picture of the bird silhouette and suggested that this was exactly the right spot. She laughed and noted the location preference, but she does think she'll put it there.
I dragged some other poor neighbors over to look down the retaining wall at my garden. They said all the right, socially appropriate things, including that I had the best garden in the neighborhood.
We've almost made it through the week. It is going to rain tomorrow and it is going the rain Saturday. The forecast for Saturday was that it might rain, and then it might rain, and then there will be a thunderstorm, after which it might rain.
I mentioned at one point that a lot of the Russian Orthodox Church priests signed a decree against the war. The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, is in favor of Putin and in favor of the war. Pope Francis called him out on it. "The patriarch cannot transform himself into Putin's altar boy." Well. That pissed Kirill off. In Ukraine more than 320 priests signed a letter accusing Kirill of heresy and committing moral crimes by blessing the war and asked church leaders to consider deposing him. The European Commission may sanction him. The European Union plans to.
Russia did manage to stop the ruble from crashing but it did so by hiking interest rates to 20% and forcing Russian companies to convert their foreign exchange to rubles and limiting the amount Russians could transfer abroad. This is also why Putin tried to force Europe to pay for gas in rubles. The sanctions are the most severe in history. They will eventually make it harder for Russia to build tanks, manufacture cruise missiles, and finance a war. It will be harder to produce food and cars.
Russian planes are limited to domestic flights. They can't get spare parts so they are recycling parts from grounded planes. Car companies can't get parts either. Companies can't get bleaching reagents for paper. 90% of Russian bread makers rely on parts from Europe.
Denmark is speeding up construction of two wind farms. One will be 3 GW and eventually 10 GW and another will be 2 GW. They were originally set to be functioning y 2030 but they are now moving as fast as possible.
Germany is now ready to block Russian oil. The ban will be phased, giving it a transition period to get alternatives. There is a refinery which is owned by a Russian company. Germany is preparing legislation that would allow it to take over the facility.
Fiji has seized a $300 million yacht owned by an oligarch. What can you do with a $300 million yacht that you can't do with a $3 million yacht?
