FLOWER FRIDAY - GUERNSEY CREAM CLEMATIS

Earlier in the Spring, I cut back all our clematis plants and they are doing really well.  However, our Guernsey Cream wasn’t looking very good, and had done nothing last year but put on more leaves, so we had a chat and decided to leave it to see if it did anything this year.

While I was away, this has begun to bloom and now it is full of beautiful, large flowers that look like big saucers.

This plant is Mr. HCB’s pride and joy because he loves anything to do with the Channel Islands, which was the main reason for buying this particular clematis.

We desperately need some rain though and not only for the plants but also for the wild flower seeds we sowed a few weeks ago - it’s all very well to give it some water through the hose but nothing beats gentle rain.  The trouble in this country is that once it starts raining, it never seems to know when to stop.

“I grow plants for many reasons,
     to please my soul,
          to challenge elements
or to challenge my patience;
     for novelty, or for nostalgia,
          but mostly for the joy
in seeing them grow.”
