Rocks

The rocks has been lying here for around 2000 years so the people living here then obviously chose a good material for their ritual markers. This whole field is one huge burial place, over a kilometre long and was probably connected with another big field not far away. There are lots of different kind of graves, it was used for about 500 years or more, but typical is that they burned their dead and they were buried along with weapons and things that might be good for the travel to their underworld. The huge ship formation is also a grave and particularly well preserved but hasn't been excavated. The big rock in the middle marks the mast and the two bigger rocks marks the stern and the bow. Our Wandering-group had a very interesting nine km. walk in the area, mostly because of the enormous amounts of plants, birds, air and sunshine. The extra shows a couple of Morels, something I've never seen before.

In the afternoon I visited the Kalmar Castle for a fabulous concert with a professional string ensemble called Camerata Nordica, in a multimedia perfomance about Axel Munthe, the creator of Villa San Michele in Capri. After the concert I was invited for coffee and homemade ice-cream in their home, which can't be rejected. After that full day, I saved the blip for monday.
