Bean tunnel, coffee sacks and evening frog
I've been to the plot 3 times today: 2 hours this morning to water, sow seeds, plant out rudbeckia seedlings and weed the potato bed.
I then had lunch with a friend at my local roastery/café and picked up a bunch of free coffee sacks. We walked around the plots and sat on deckchairs by the pond watching the wildlife (frogs, newts, dragonflies mating).
I was back in the evening for more watering and to lay coffee sacks under the bean tunnel. Coffee sacks have many uses on the allotment - these I've used as a kind of mulch-rug. I do this every year with the bean tunnel; if I can, I'll put a sheet of cardboard + grass clippings underneath. It really helps cut down weed growth and keeps the soil moist between waterings. And, as my left neighbour recently said, I like things that are "visually pleasing".
The number of interactions with amphibians is on the up - this big guy was hiding under my foxglove and jumped to the birdsfoot trefoil when I started watering the flower bed!
