Lucky Stone

I'm not sure just where the notion that stones like this, with a distinct line of quartz running all the way through, got a reputation for being lucky, or how widespread the idea is. I do not believe I encountered it until I came to the coast of Maine, where it is generally understood. This one was just brought back home from the Point by my wife, who set it on the porch. 

Maybe I should have consulted this rock before going to the endodontist and being told I was going to be needing a root canal for that bothersome back molar.
