a lifetime burning

Red is back

With robins, dunnocks and starlings all nesting in the garden at the moment, we seem to have inadvertently created a damselfly danger zone for the newly emerged damsels as the birds busy themselves trying to find enough food for their chicks.

It has been very windy here (the official forecast describes it as a "stiff breeze"). So there were not that many insects about.  I spotted this red damselfly tucked away in a relatively sheltered part of the garden - I don't think he's got the news about the hungry birds as yet ...

Also hiding was the hoverfly which I have included as an extra, which was an exercise in trying to just get the eye in focus and allowing everything else to blur.  Those of you of a nervous disposition can avoid looking if you prefer :-)
