Singing Reeds

I decided to get up quite a bit earlier today, and headed to the River Weaver. My pace was slow - the warblers are in full song, and as the new reeds are only just getting going the birds are easier to see, and easier (although not easy) to photograph. But it does take a bit of patience.

This montage is a reed warbler (left), and a sedge warbler (right), and they are the sound of the reed-beds in spring and summer. The songs are similar, but different once the ear is attuned. Sedge warblers in particular throw in lots of mimicry of other birds songs.

Other warblers were available, I also photographed Whitethroats and I heard several times the very short but very loud song of the Cettis Warbler. These birds are the ultimate skulkers, I have heard them often but never seen them.

Back for 11am for coffee with J.
