Black and blue!

The wind dropped, the sun came out and another glorious morning in the Highlands!

An extremely high tide, very little of the grazing at the head of the bay visible so setting off to the start of our walk we stopped at the car park at the head of Enard Bay to take a closer look. 

There is a river that winds around the bay and runs down the far side, this fills up with the tide by not usually by this much. The lovely little Hebredean sheep roam the area and some are stranded on the grass with water all around them. They look perfectly happy grazing. In the top picture ‘our house’ is just off to the left out of picture above Achnahaird beach. In the far distance is the Point of Stoer which hosts a lighthouse.

The advantage of stopping for this stunning view is that it is also close to a little enclosure of Hebridean and sometimes Lochtan sheep and at this time of year their black lambs.

We parked at Old Dornie Harbour and set off on a newish trail to Fox Point overlooking the Summer Isles and back along the coast of Polbain and Achiltibuie.
New signage and paths created with stones through some very boggy ground allowed for a circuit of the headland. We’ve done a similar walk before which entailed climbing Red Hill. Great views but no sign of any paths and a struggle to get back down through heather so this was a breath of fresh air. Well done Coigach and Assynt Living Landscape. As well as a history trial there is a great deal of geology to be seen here if it is your interest.

I’m more into wildlife and we saw three red deer, two Great Skuas flying over as hearing lots of coastal birds. Back at the harbour the tide was by now very low and the rocks in the middle were dotted with Grey seals.

A very pleasant walk again, just 3.5 miles, pictures form the walk in the extra. Back for a chill this afternoon.

Now heading out to the Am Fuaran bar for dinner. Though an un prepossessing Scottish style pub, we sit outside for the view if just having a drink,  it is also a fabulous seafood restaurant. Can’t wait!
