Local Walk - backblip
Wind a little calmer today so after a leisurely breakfast we embarked on a local walk round the village of Finghall, where we’re staying. D was in charge of navigation which took us though the village, down the road, past the old station, over a river bridge where we turned right onto a footpath leading to the Church of St. Andrews: (the current building, dedicated to St Andrews is a 12th Century Grade 11 listed building located on the site of a much earlier Anglo Saxon Church).
The Church Warden was on duty today and gave us the full history of this little church with a big heart. The lovely old organ didn’t look as if it was playable but the Warden told us it was used quite regularly and our friend D, being a talented pianist, was invited to tinkle the yellowing, and some missing ivories, and gave us a splendid rendition of a few organ pieces finishing with ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ whilst the Church Warden plied us audience with tea and biscuits, then ....
Onward and upwards (the dreaded hills) passing by some of the oldest trees in the County, fields full of buttercups, and a few daisies, and some cute lambs.
After walking far more steps than I’m used to it was back to base to share dinner duties then a brutal game of UNO! I wasn’t last, for a change.
Another memorable day. Thank goodness for photos to keep the memories going.
Extras: D tinkling the ivories, Buttercups
