Zodiac to the Shore

This is how we arrived on shore for the ski tour every day, landing on rocks and seaweed, definitely not easy to negotiate in ski boots! Today’s extras show how the skis are adapted for walking (skinning) on fake seal skins to go uphill. The terrain today was very rocky and the grey skies never lifted for us. We have a lot of laughs and chats on the journey and have become a very bonded group of friends. Today was about getting our weakest member of the team slowly to a high point as she has not been able to join us after a rather disastrous first day. She is such a lovely person but replaced someone else just three weeks before setting out and had no time to train or practice skinning beforehand. Another extra of a broken jetty which looked majestic on the shore.

(Posting just before midnight as my flight was cancelled from Frankfurt to Geneva and I had to queue for 3 hours to get a new flight 24 hours later. The hotel I am in has no restaurant open, there is no kettle in the room and I am exhausted and hungry! Will post today’s blip tomorrow.)
