Roma - Terzo giorno - Trevi Fountain
On Thursday Steve and I had planned to go to the vatican city and visit the museums there. We had quite a stress over the pre-booked vouchers which hadn't turned up in my mailbox so almost had a very early rise to beat the queues however luckily a last minute check in my spam folder, et voila, my prepaid no queue voucher :)
The museums were as with most things in Rome, amazing. I loved wandering around and admiring the amazing sculptures, the Raphael Rooms with beautiful paintings and frescos which looked almost 3D. I have to admit to feeling a little underwhelmed with the Sistene Chapel as I had expected The Creation of Adam to be huge but in reality it was quite small and I actually missed it.
One other disappointing aspect of the visit was that despite numerous notices on which bits of the museum should be quiet/ dress code respected etc due to being actual church grounds, there were quite a high number of people not following the rules. I'm personally not religious but I do believe you follow the customs and requests of places you visit as a guest and in return for being welcomed in - to be it is just polite.
We also went into St Peter's Basilica - the architecture and building is just so beautiful. Despite very sore legs we did take the 331 steps to the top. The views of Rome were gorgeous and it was definetly worth the climb.
In the evening back in the main city area we went for a pre-dinner wander and visited the Trevi Fountain. As we wandered the streets looking for it I almost thought we were totally lost but suddenly we came across it and it was HUGE!
It was also so so busy.
After a lovely meal the little ristorante we went to left a bottle of limoncello on our table with a couple of glasses - dangerous but well recieved! LOVE it.
Lovely last evening in Rome.
