Frómista to Carrión de los Condes, stage 16

Not far of half of this extraordinary journey, I feel very fortunate not to have had any blisters despite
the webbing on my trusty Keen trekking shoes having split a few days ago. The repair with duct tape looks to be successful, I will replace with moleskin when I get the chance.
Today’s section sounded almost like a rest day, a short stretch out of Frómista and a well way marked detour mostly along the Rio Ucieza followed by 7 or 8 km into Carrión de los Condes. The river was delightful, the banks full of wild roses – yellow, pink and orange and I stopped often to listen to the cuckoos.
The temperature begin to sore again from about midday and we all struggled with the final lap beside a busy road into Carrión de los Condes. The views of the Pyrenees and the occasional lorry driver hooting encouragement was enough to maintain our moral.
My accommodation is once again superb value, complete with communal courtyard and the highly important washing line, no pegs though and there is a quite a wind so fingers crossed.
I thought I was going to be out of luck with storks, however they clearly found the highest spot in the remains of one the 14 pilgrim hospitals slightly out of the town centre.
I noticed the plaque in the main square, Plaza del Generalisimo Franco. I had understood that most these had been removed.
The extra is one the bright yellow wild roses that intermingled with poppies and thistles along the river.
