Early birthday cake

As #3 daughter and family came for lunch I made a cake from cake crumbs and assorted sweetness - butter, syrup, melted chocolate, cherries and broken biscuits so that Ella and Nathaniel could sing happy birthday and have cake. This is not Mr C falling into the cake - he is blowing out the one candle.

Before cake I had cooked chicken in Ras el Hanout and put it on a taco with red onion, minted sumac yoghurt, pomegranate molasses and pomegranate seeds. The children didn’t find it too spicy as they rolled it up and the minted yoghurt cooled it enough. They also helped us out with last night’s leftovers. I love that they try everything and eat it all.

We got more information about Luke’s medical issues when the children were playing in the wood. He’s to have a lumber puncture and a spinal scan as well as another brain MRI in September. The 3 tests should establish whether it is MS. I think he’s quite relieved as when he was sent by the eye consultant for a speedy brain MRI he worried it could be a brain tumour. At least we are spared that.

The children are staying the night. They have gone 2 weeks without niggling each other - only another 50 to go and they get a dog. I have advised daughter to take them in the back of the car on a hot day for a long drive with nothing to read if they last out till too near the time.
