Martin Down

Today we went on a RSPB walk on the lovely Martin Down (National  Nature reserve near Salisbury on the borders of Wiltshire, Dorset and  Hampshire).
We were lucky with the weather and only experienced two  light rain showers. We hoped to hear and see Turtle Doves. Well, we heard one, which was pleasing. There are probably only two pairs on the entire  reserve. We also saw and heard lots of Skylarks, Yellow Hammers and a few Whitethroat,  two Corn Buntings and a Cuckoo.  There are lots of interesting plants too, including  this Greater Butterfly orchid (in the extra). The other extra shows a Garden Chafer, one of many which had just  emerged. There were also a few beautiful Adonis blue  and Dingy  skipper butterflies.
