Sadness

On Sunday, a couple that has been our best friends for over 40 years was in a head-on car collision.  A 26-yr old drunken kid decided he was in a hurry and illegally passed a line of cars on a two lane road, only to come head-on to our friends' car.

The wife died on impact; the husband will survive -- albeit with major injuries including to the spinal cord, not to mention the psychological and emotional toll this will take on him. 

They had just attended the wedding of our youngest and we were going to be with them at their beach house to spend a leisurely few days together this week.

Bad things do in fact happen to very good people... I still can't believe this is real.
