Platinum Jubilee

Just got in from watching the beacon being ignited in our village .
3, 000 others being lit at the same time all across the country.
Earlier Elaine and l had taken a picnic, chairs, small table and a bottle of Prosecco to the park and enjoyed listening to live music along with hundreds of others.
A really lovely atmosphere with people of all ages.
A rather splendid day to mark a 70 year reign.

I remember the Coronation,  l wore a white dress with blue and red spots and l had a red, white and blue ribbon in my hair.
We were one of the only two houses in our street that had a television.
People were queueing through the house and garden to take a turn to sit on one of a line of hard backed chairs so they could glimpse what was happening in London.
I was given a tiny box of chocolates, such a rarity as sugar was still rationed until 1953 after World War ll.
