Joy Chapel
Hubby got up before 6 am so he and his crew could complete their Adopt-A-Highway task before the temperature was too high. My first task was housework followed by making more table favors for Monday’s graduation. I think there are still 40 more to make. We firmed up plans/menus for my nephew’s visit and sent them to him, making sure he understood it was a straw man that he could adopt, change or discard with no pressure - he was delighted. We attended a young friend’s birthday party and then purchased most of the food and drinks for my mother’s entertaining needs. We got home in time to refrigerate the perishables and head to Mass. We’ll deliver everything tomorrow. Today, I realized I’ve never looked up the history of the small chapel for which the road to our neighborhood is named. Decided that would be my blip. Here’s what I found on line, apparently written by Judy Wood, a church member.: “The Hollywood United Methodist Church was originally known as Joy’s Neighborhood, then, as the first Joy Chapel. This time period was from 1832 through 1895, when the second Joy Chapel was erected on the same site. After fire destroyed the second Joy Chapel, a third Joy Chapel was built on the site of our current church in 1933. Then, in 1946, the cornerstone for our present brick church building was laid.” After the local population outgrew this beautiful chapel, these well-kept grounds became the Hollywood United Methodist Church cemetery. A prayer garden has been added and the brick fence expanded since we moved here in 2001. Thanks for dropping by, leaving stars and nice notes. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. No news; stay safe. “The goal of a church is not to have a bigger building or budget but to see the word of God increase and disciples multiply.” - Kevin DeYoung
